Now is the time of the year when society looks back on the past year and reflects on the best and worst of the past 365 days. Most times, I don’t take the time to do the same for myself, but this year is one to document. I didn’t do that great of a job documenting what happened in 2009 in this blog, but I did keep pretty good track in my mind.

Every now and then, a year comes along that changes things and 2009 is one of those years. I didn’t get off to the best of starts, but in the end, this year shaped up to be a pretty awesome year. Here’s a list of things to remember about / things I’ve learned this year for me:

Family can surprise you

Friendships were made, lost, strengthened, reconnected or redefined

Change can be scary but awesome at the same time

Opportunities are made

Summer was one of the best ever

In the moment is a great place to live

Photography rocks my world

Good food was made and shared

I saw two of my favorite bands in concert

I’m pretty awesome – it is a pretty powerful realization

Happiness comes from within, but is multiplied when shared with others

Vacation time is a gift to be used up

I 5K’d this year

Many of these things don’t mean much to you, but they do to me. And if you happen to have known me during this time. Thanks for being part of the journey.

Thanks 2009. You rock.

2008 was a pretty good year for me. I did a lot of new things, met a lot of new people and had a lot of fun. I did not make many resolutions, but I feel like if I make a few this year, I might be able to do it.

Blog More
Not that I have a lot of fans, but I do like to write. So I am going to resolve to write more in my blog. After all I pay for this space, I might as well use it.

Watch More Movies
I have Netflix, but don’t use it as much as I should.

365 on Flickr
I’ve started this project twice. I am going to commit to actually participating in it more this year.

Meet More People
I had fun meeting people in 2008, I think that I could meet more and have more fun.

So that’s it. Simple, easy, attainable. Watch and see what happens.

So I woke up today with a list of things to do running through my head.

Laundry

Pack more boxes

Go through closet

Call Comcast

Make something to bring for lunch this week

All I had to do was turn over and step out of bed. Then I fell back asleep and that was it. My day was spent. I woke up again to find Jon and Kate Plus 8 on and then I ended up spending time on flickr. Now I’m figuring out what to have for dinner. I don’t think that I wasted a day. Sometimes you just have to listen to your body and just sleep. I needed this day. So here’s to getting to the rest of the list tomorrow!

It’s been crazy here the past few weeks. Here are just a few things that are on my mind:

NIU – crazy. I feel extremely sad and angry at the same time. How can people have access to guns? I don’t understand. Two of the victims (one died, one still in the hospital) are from my town. It’s too sad. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone that was touched by this tragedy.

I think I’m going to go back to school for web design or graphic design. I think sometimes my practical side doesn’t allow my creative side to shine. I am a very creative person and it is time for me to spend some time developing that. There are some certificate programs I’m looking at, but who knows maybe I’ll go back to get a second BA? Keep you posted.

My job will be changing soon. I will be placed in a new position. It’s strange seeing that I have only been there since October, but at the same time I am excited to have some new responsibilities. It’s great too because this is a brand new position so I can work to shape it into what it needs to be mixed with what I want it to be. It should be exciting.

It’s cold and windy/snowy.

I am obsessed with In Treatment on HBO. I have spent my entire afternoon watching these shows on On-Demand doing laundry. It’s kinda like watching theater. Check it out.

Today is Blog Action Day! I decided to write about how you can take something simple, like lunch and make it just a little bit greener.

Bring your lunch – take out food usually means plastic bags, forks, and containers. All of which, yes can be recycled, but you might not have the means to do so at that time. So why don’t you just eliminate the use of them from the beginning? Not to mention the gas you might use to go pick up the food.

Use a lunch box – find one that works best for you and will keep you food cold with an ice pack. It’s great because it is re-usable. You no longer will have to throw out a plastic or paper lunch bag again. Plus, if you find one that in insulated you won’t have to put your lunch in the fridge which would use more energy; all you would need is an ice pack.

Bring your drink in a re-usable container – then you won’t be throwing a can or bottle in the trash at the end of the day. I find water works well that way I can make some lemonade or tea if I need to.

Bring your own silverware – my favorite is my old girl scout set. It connects together so won’t loose one piece.

Plan ahead – all of this takes a little planning in the beginning, but it won’t take long for you to get used to packing a green lunch.

2006 – what a blip in history. I can’t believe how much happened this year. So much that I can’t even write a summary of the best of 2006. Here is what I can remember of 2006 it’s ups and downs:

IRAQ – it was the talk of all of the news shows this year and with good reason. Finally the world has come to its senses and all agree that being in Iraq is not such a good idea. Now it is just a waiting game to see what Bush decides to do in the new year.

YouTube – for it to be bought by Google you know that it was something to talk about. For the first time video was searchable and accessible to everyone. It changed how people use the web.

Reality Check – there were more reality competition shows then ever before.I was addicted to Dancing with the Stars, myself. Which one was your favorite?

There was some crazy weather going on as temperatures around the country were warmer than usual.

[There's a lot more that happened this year, but I am having a brain-freeze right now. Please bare with me as I attend to these technical difficulties.]

I turn 25 in 25 days. Being the historical person I am I decided to look at the past 25 years that I have been alive. A lot has happened in those years. It has been a quarter of a century and you only turn that age once. So for the next 25 days I’ll be documenting 1982-2007. Seeing as 2007 hasn’t happened yet and will only be 19 days old when on my birthday I’m going to start with 2006 tomorrow. Stay tuned . . .

Sunday . . . I love Sundays. Here are 9 reasons why:

The world seems slower. Have you ever noticed that? Just driving to Target seems like people aren’t in as much of a hurry.

If I have to work, I get paid time and a half and I get out at 3. It gives me enough time to do something and get stuff done.

Comics in color. It makes them seem slightly more entertaining.

Breakfast is bigger. For some reason, when I lived by myself and even now there is something about Sunday that makes me make a big breakfast with pancakes and bacon and eggs. There’s always leftovers.

60 Minutes – perhaps that last true piece of journalism. It gives me hope that people are actually being informed in this country.

Naps are better on Sundays.

I have a chance to catch up on the TiVo stuff. It’s mainly Daily Show, Colbert Report, random reality TV, The Office.

Football in the afternoons. It reminds me of college.

The Amazing Race – best. show. ever.

It’s all good until the alarm goes off at 6:15 Monday morning. I hope you enjoyed your Sunday as much as I did.

I don’t know what it is, but I hate being the oldest. My sister and I are 8 years apart and it bugs the hell out of me. I mean I love my sister, but I also remember everything that happened to me and when it happened to me. Then I get really upset when she gets to do things that I didn’t. I know, it is completely childish, but as of this moment I have yet to get over it.

Today my sister was looking for a French Horn. We both play. She got to start when she was in fifth grade, I had to wait until high school. Now my parents want to buy her a horn. Whatever. See, I have yet to get over it.

Top Reasons why being the oldest sucks:

your parents have no idea what they are doing when they are raising you

you have all the responsibility

constant comparison to your parents (i.e. when I was your age I never did that!)

Now I am sure I could come up with more, but I’m tired.

This weekend has been such a mood swinging weekend it’s not even funny. I think it has to do with my lack of sleep. Anyway, tomorrow I hope to resume the job hunt and possibly get some laundry done.
