This fact should come as no surprise to you. I love The Olympics so much that I started this tradition with some friends of mine where we cook the food of the host country during the Opening Ceremonies.

What may surprise you is why I’m such a fanatic.

I love the whole Olympic movement. I love that it is a GLOBAL event. I don’t know how many of you are aware, but during The Olympics all nations are supposed to call off all wars. This obviously isn’t the case any more, but I always thought that the idea was a great one. Furthermore, countries send their very best to compete in (mostly) honest competition. This are in many cases amateur athletes. Some have made it there by their own accord, others are part of a government program, but either way each one has a dream – to compete their best against the best for an Olympic medal. Maybe it’s the idealist in me, but there is just something so pure about it that I love.

Beyond that, I love seeing all of these sports that are not as well known in my neck of the woods – like curling. I mean I guess it’s sort of sweeping the nation now, but for the most part, I only get to see it during The Olympics. Then there’s bobsled, snowboard cross, speed skating, and that crazy skeleton. In the summer, it’s diving, all of the track events, and swimming. [Side Bar - I am one of the few that like the Winter Olympics more then the Summer Olympics. There's so much more danger involved. Also a lot of those sports involve a lot of speed. It's just more interesting to me.] The commentary for these sports is always great because it so unfiltered. The commentator is usually a past athlete who is very passionate about the sport; so it always amuses me to hear their reactions to things I don’t really know much about.

There only a few days left. I hope to catch as much coverage that I can.

I’ve been listening to the concert all day at work.  It’s been pretty good.  But I haven’t been moved until now.  Melissa Etheridge is talking about how America is a country that stands up for when things are unjust, stands up for when they want change, stands up with the President is an idiot . . . Now I sit here with tears in my eyes for being so lame.  Maybe I should just quit my job and work to save the world and live in a tent. I feel like our generation isn’t doing anything.  We need to start . . . TODAY!

Growing up I watched Sesame Street like it was my religion. I loved it. Looking back, I realized just how much of an impact it had on my life. I learned the basics of the alphabet, numbers, colors and shapes. Beyond that I learned that people should be treated the same no matter what they looked liked, families may look different, and how to treat other people. It really shaped me into who I am today more than I realized. I am still a sucker for those songs though.

Today I watched The World According to Sesame Street. It’s a documentary that shows how different countries adapt the Sesame Street curriculum and make it reflect their culture. Also, it shows how the show can be used for healing like in Kosovo. It was a pretty interesting 2 hours. I recommend it!

While watching the show one theme seemed constant. . . LOVE. Love. love.

In the show love made Izzy do something totaly crazy. (I try not to spoil [...]]]> I told you I was back. I wanted to go to bed, but I wanted to write about Grey’s Anatomy. I just couldn’t help myself.

In the show love made Izzy do something totaly crazy. (I try not to spoil it for all of you TiVo-ers out there.) But she does somthing totally insane. She did it for love. She did it because she believed in love and what you have to do to fight for that love. I would do it. I believe that once you find love, you have to fight for it because it is something so precious that you can’t let it slip through your fingers. Speaking of fingers, Christina!! I am glad that she rode the roller coaster through the episode considering that her boyfriend was shot. She had to go through all of the ups and downs and in the end she too decided the love was worth it. Worth taking that step out on the ledge with someone else and going through life. George. What can I say about George? He has the most love out of all of the characters on the show. He understood that when you say “I love you” you have to mean it or you just don’t say it. He’s the coolest one out there. Karev finally showed that he could understand some inkling of what it means to love someone. You have to check the ego at the door. That brings me to Meridith. The girl is saturated with love. She has love in so many places. McDreamy finally realizes that he actually loves her, like deep down loves her at the same time when the adorable Vet loves her too. Now over the summer she must choose. The show did a great job at showing what it means to love and be loved for so many different people.

Personally, I am learning that if you have faith in love everything else doesn’t really matter. No matter what you do or don’t do doesn’t matter because love is there. This goes for any type of relationship: friendship, work, family, significant other, pet, neighbor, whatever. Love exists on so many levels. I’m not saying that there aren’t unforgettable things, but that doesn’t mean that those same things are unforgivable. You know what I mean? My childhood sucked. I’ll never forget it, but I if don’t forgive it, I’ll never move on and love the people in my life. I have yet to experience that love that you wait your whole life for. That doesn’t mean that it won’t happen. However, in the meantime I will love and be loved by those I do have.

Moal of the story: don’t cheat yourself out of love.
