happy 4th america
When trying to think of something to write for this extremely patriotic day I came up with a number of things; including the story of Jefferson and Adams. But in the end I think a simple quote from the Declaration we are celebrating today is just fine.
When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.
P.S. America: I know it’s cool to love your country today and all, but for the love of God please stop with the firecrakers at 11pm. Some of us do have to work in the morning. (I know I sound old, but if you heard the crazy sticks of TNT they were shooting off over here, you’d be crabby too.) It sounds like what I can only imagine Iraq sounds like on a good day.

I was just on the Lake County ROE website, and District 113 (Highland Park HS & Deerfield HS) has an anticipated social studies vacancy for the fall. The website is http://www.dist113.org. I don’t know if you’re familiar with the area, but HPHS and DHS are GREAT schools to work for.

Hi Marissa! Another totally unrelated comment, but I’m just trying to find you! Carolyn and Allison and I are planning to go to Alene’s wedding on 7/22 and are thinking of getting a hotel in Franklin Park. Will you give me a call and let me know if you might have some time to hang out? We’re trying to figure out hotel sharing and how many nights we want to stay and everything, and Allison suggested hanging out, just like I did when I emailed you. Hope to talk to you soon!

My high school has a part-time social studies position open for the fall. It’s Mundelein High School, mundeleinmustangs.com. LOVE the school, though if you’re in Franklin Park it’s probably about 30 miles away. Just thought I’d let you know. And of course, hope the search is going well!
UNRELATED COMMENT NO. 3: So I totally didn’t realize you redesigned. Super cool. I like the drop downs. Totally stealing because I forgot to incorporate that for the archives when I redesigned. Also, I know you’re pretty good and taking photos and playing with photoshop. Now that kitsch by k has a store (so exciting! kitschbyk.etsy.com) I was wondering if you could help me with taking photos. What I have up there I don’t feel is adequate. I used plenty of light and everything. Maybe sometime this weekend or next week? Let me know! Hope you like my store. Now I can finish the official website since the shop part is done. YAY!
