If you live in or around the Chicago area; you most likely have heard this story many times today.
The Berghoff Restaurant is closing.
This is a restaurant that has been in business for more than 100 years. The Berghoff is known for their brewed beer and great food. It is a Chicago classic. (There’s more to Chicago cuisine than deep dish pizza.) Also, right after prohibition ended, the Berghoff’s were in line to receive the city’s first liquor licence.
The current owners have run the resturant for the last 50 years and are looking to start a new part of their lives.
“We share the sadness that many feel about the closing of the restaurant. It’s been an honor to be part of the fabric of Chicago, but after being in the business for over a half century, Jan and I feel that now is the right time to start a new chapter in our lives.”

We have until February 28, 2006 to enjoy the historic restaurant. The beer however, will continue to be brewed. Anyone want to do lunch?
