cleaning out my closet
*This is probably really boring, but hey, it’s a blog, it can’t all be great.
Today I realized that I only have 5 days until my dad comes, picks up my stuff and I move back to Carol Stream. It’s kinda scary. So today while cleaning out my actual closet, I’ve been reflecting a lot on how much I’ve grown over the past 4.5 years that I lived here. It has been quite an expirence.
I gained so much more confidence. I know who I am. Well, not all the way, but I’m on the right direction to figuring it out. That’s HUGE for me. I used to just follow other people around, but now I try to figure things out for myself. Trusting myself is something else that has happened. I have grown so much spiritually and mentally. I don’t know if this would have happened if I stayed at home for college.
I have made so many friends too. I love all of them. It has been so great to get to know so many different people. I wish that I had more time to meet more people. I hope the co-hort stays together through our numerous teaching adventures. I will do my best to keep in touch with all of my friends down here. There are some people that that have become family.
I think that college is more about learning about people than it is about going to class. There are people who will accept you no matter what and there are people who won’t. And that’s ok. Everyone is different. People will surprise you. One day there will be this email in your inbox that you never expected and it will make your day. Or attitudes will change and what you thought you had with people disappears. I have learned that you have to just roll with it. You can only take care of yourself. It’s ok to be a little selfish sometimes. I have learned that some people will be friends with you even if you change and those are the best ones to have.
I know this is turning into some crazy advice column type post, but oh well.
At the moment:
My room is clean
I know what I have to study for my finals
I have a workout plan for when I get home
There are two bags full of my clothes to give away
Laundry is done
I wanna cry
I wanna laugh
No matter where I go, I owe Champaign-Urbana for helping me along the way.
